Festival of Trumpets, Day 1

רֹאשׁ הַשָּׁנָה א

TORAH: GENESIS 26:1-34 | PROPHETS: 1 SAMUEL 1:1-2:10 | GOSPEL: LUKE 1:39-55

Judaism celebrates the Festival of Trumpets as a New Year’s Day. Rosh HaShanah literally means “Head of the Year” because the first day of the seventh month is regarded as the biblical new year. <HOWEVER, this ministry, Odon Obadyah Ministries, believes this is incorrect. The Biblical New Year begins on the first day of the first month as YaHVaH established, Biblically, we are to celebrate Yom Teruah, NOT Rosh Hashanah> The festival’s main feature is the blowing of the ram’s horn trumpet, i.e., the shofar.The Torah portion for Rosh HaShanah tells the story of the conception and birth of Isaac. The haftarah echoes the Torah portion with another story of the LORD miraculously granting a barren woman a son. The Talmud records a tradition that the LORD remembered Sarah, Rachel, and Hannah on Rosh HaShanah and unlocked their wombs on that day.
