D’VARIYM דְּבָרִ֗ים (The Words) DEUTERONOMY 1:1-3:22
PROPHETS: ISAIAH 1:1-27 | GOSPEL: MATTHEW 24:1-22
TORAH:
This Reading begins with the last book of the Torah, D’variym, meaning The Words. The meaning is fitting as most of the book is recounting a lot of the previous Torah books, basically a reminder of the most important items before mentioned. “3 It was in the fortieth year, in the eleventh month, when Moshe spoke to the Children of Isra’el, according to everything that YaHVaH commanded him to them.” D’variym 1:3, (Tanach, Stone Edition, Mesorah Publications). Moshe’s intention here is to remind them of YaH’s Word before they enter into the Promised Land.
PROPHETS:
This Haftarah reading takes us to introduction of Isaiah (Y’sha’yah in Hebrew). It begins with a call to those who have rebelled against YaHVaH. “4 Woe! sinful nation, a people weighed down by iniquity, evil offspring, destructive children!”
GOSPEL:
In this Reading, Yeshua tells his talmidim the Temple will be destroyed. They ask when, so he tells them to look for certain signs.
