NOACH נֹ֗חַ (Noah) GENESIS 6:9 – 11:32
PROPHETS: ISAIAH 54:1-55:5 | GOSPEL: LUKE 17:20-27

TORAH:
This parashah does not begin with Noah’s introduction, as you might expect; that occurred at the end of B’RE’SHIYTH in Chapter 6:1-8. Instead, it starts with Noah’s offspring and describes him as a righteous man before YaHVaH.
YaHVaH then tells Noah that He will flood the earth and to build an ark of gopher wood [which is now thought today to be Teak, but this is not confirmed]. The ark was to be 450′ long, 75′ wide, and 45′ tall (1,518,750 cubic feet). Those measurements are equivalent to roughly 368 semi truck trailers (8.5 trailers long x 8.83 trailers wide x 4.9 trailers tall) using the dimensions of 53′ long x 8.5′ wide x 9.2′ tall. The cruise ship “American Queen” is the closest modern equivalent, but there are larger cruise ships, such as the Queen Elizabeth 2. The QE2 is around 3.5 times the size of the ark (1,131.89 feet long x 144.36 feet wide x 32.81 feet tall). YaHVaH tells Noah that male and female of every animal, bird, and creeping things will come to the ark for refuge and for Noah to gather enough food for himself, his family, and the animals for the upcoming flood.
There were more than 2 of each animals, contrary to popular believe today. Scripture says “2 Of every clean animal take unto you seven (7) pairs, a male with its mate, and of the animal that is not clean, two, a male and its mate; 3 of the birds of the heavens also, seven pairs, male and female, to keep seed alive upon the face of all the earth” Genesis 7:2-3, Tanach, Stone Student Size Edition (c) 2001. That is 14 of each clean animal, 4 of the unclean, and 14 birds (not two). It would take only 7 days for all of these animals, birds, and creeping things to come to and enter the ark; followed by the Flood.
