‘EKEV עֵקֶב (Result) DEUTERONOMY 7:12-11:25
PROPHETS : ISAIAH 49:14-51:3| GOSPEL : MATTHEW 16:13-20
TORAH:
There are various ways to translate the word ‘EKEV עֵקֶב. Strongs gives this description “… the last of anything (used adverbially for ever); also result, i.e. compensation; and so (adverbially with preposition or relative) on account of:” and 6 definitions: “- because, by, end, for, if, reward.” (Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible, 2007, 2021; p. 1554, H6118). Chabad uses “because”, Stone edition Tanach uses “the reward”, and KJV, NKJV, and ROSNB uses “come to pass”. We can see the understanding each translation uses; however, we believe the word ‘result’ in the Strong’s description seems to be the best rendering in verse 7:12: “And it will be the result when you heed these ordinances, and you keep them, and you perform them; then will YaHVaH, your Elohiym, keep to you the covenant and the lovingkindness (mercy) that He swore to your forefathers” (OOMI translation, 2023). This train of thought actually begins with verse 11 from the previous Parshah: “And you shall guard the commandment, and the statutes, and the regulations, which I command you this day to perform them” (OOMI translation, 2023). The implication seems to imply that this is a conditional covenant; however, as other Scripture bears out, YaHVaH keeps this covenant with us even when we do not. So much so, that He sent His Son, Yeshua, to die for our transgressions and sin, that we may be reunited with the Father, YaHVaH.
Verse 13 continues with all the benefits of this covenant that YaHVaH will perform for us “13 And He will love you, and bless you, and multiply you; And He will bless the fruit of your wombs (children), and the fruit of your land, your grain, and your wine, and your oil; increase your cattle and your flocks of sheep and goats; in the land which He swore to your forefathers to give to you. 14 Blessed shall you be above all people; there will be no sterile male or barren female among you or among your animals. 15 And YaHVaH will remove from you every illness; and all of the evil diseases of Mitzrayim מִצְרַ֨יִם (Egypt) that you knew. He will not set them upon you, but lay them upon your enemies” (OOMI translation, 2023).
Verses 16 to 26 is counsel to the Israelites to not fear the people of the land they are to possess, but to slay them and destroy them. For YaHVaH will be with them and deliver the people of the land to destruction. It also counsels them to not keep any of their carved images of their gods or keep the precious metals from their idols. YaHVaH calls them abominations to Him and they should not be in your home, they are BANNED. Do you have any carvings, images, statues, jewelry, or other items of other gods? If so, destroy them.
