TOLDOTH תּֽוֹלְדֹ֥ת (Generations) GENESIS 25:19-28:9

PROPHETS: MALACHI 1:1-2:7 | GOSPEL: MATTHEW 10:21-38

TORAH:

This begins with Isaac’s offspring (referred to as generations). Isaac married @ 40 to his 2nd cousin, Rebecca. They had two twin sons,  Esau and Jacob. The two sons are different in their dispositions and physical appearance, along with Esau being an outdoorsman. There is a lot of scheming and deception happening in these Scriptures.

One key note in this reading, is that the Name of YaHVaH is mentioned and invoked multiple times.

In Chapter 26, Esau (at the age of 40 like his father) will take two Hittite women as his wives. This is a source of rebellion to Isaac and Rebecca.

In Chapter 27, Rebecca, Isaac’s wife, will scheme with Jacob for him to receive Isaac’s blessing instead of Esau receiving it.

In Chapter 28, we see that Jacob is sent to Laban, his uncle, to obtain a wife. Esau, seeing his brother sent away, will take one of his 1st cousins, Mahalath, as his wife in addition to the other wives he already had. In the next readings, we will see Jacob will marry the daughters of Laban, Jacob’s 1st cousins. So both of Isaac’s sons will take their 1st cousins as their wives.

PROPHETS:

The Word of YaHVaH, by prophecy, to Israel tells us that it was YaHVaH Himself that hated Esau and loved Jacob. This means that the scheming and results in the Torah were set in motion by YaHVaH Himself to accomplish His plans. YaHVaH speaks that His Name is great among the nations and it should not be defiled.

GOSPEL:

The Words of Yeshua in this reading tell of brother against brother, father against his children, and children against their parents to the point of death. That the believers will be hated for His (Yeshua) Name’s sake.

Ending note:

In all of the Scriptures in this week’s readings, the Name of the Father, YaHVaH, and the Son, Yeshua appear to be a major theme. Use of the Name for the wrong purposes is not approved of, yet calling on the Name and using it for the right purposes is approved of greatly.
