KIY TAVO’  כִּֽי־תָב֣וֹא (When you come) DEUTERONOMY 26:1-29:8

PROPHETS : ISAIAH 60:1-22| GOSPEL : MATTHEW 4:13-24

TORAH:

Deuteronomy 26 is instructions for the people to remember YaHVaH when they arrive in the land of milk and honey He is bringing them to. They are to remember and declare the hardships YaHVaH delivered them from, but also to rejoice in the goodness He has provided. When they rejoice, they are commanded to not forget the Levites (priests and helpers) and the proselyte among them. In other words, everyone should be included in the rejoicing.

This is relevant to us as believers today as well, to remember what YaHVaH has delivered you from. To rejoice with those in need.

On the third year is the year of the tithe, where the people MUST make sure ALL the Levites, proselytes (sojourners), orphans, and widows are well fed and satisfied within their gates. They must also make a declaration they have provided for them, not transgressed YaHVaH’s commandments or forgotten them, not eaten of their provisions in mourning or in contamination, not given of their provisions for the needs of the dead, and have acted according to Your Voice and Commands.

This makes it VERY clear tithes are to come first and not to be forgotten, not to be kept in your house, not to be what you use to mourn with, not to be contaminated in any way, and definitely not to be used for the dead. Day of the Dead celebrations in many cultures are in direct violation and enmity against Our Heavenly Father.

The ending verses make it clear these are commands from YaHVaH your Elohiym to perform and observe His decrees, His commandments, and His statutes with all your heart; to walk in His Ways and hearken to His Voice. Why is this important? Because YaHVaH has distinguished His treasured people and to make you supreme over all other people; for praise, for renown, and for splendor; for you are a Holy people to YaHVaH, your Elohiym. All of us who follow Him must do this. It as relevant today to us as it was when written.
